Jack’s First Blind Date

Sunday, September 19th, 2010

Grammie Cass fixed Jack up with her co-worker’s grand daughter.

The kids had a great time!

And so did the two Chaperons. 🙂

The Hair Thing.

Sunday, September 19th, 2010

My kids have been hearing about my hair

from early on  ….

and still it continues…..

Always with , “What am I gonna do with this crazy hair?”

Ooops that’s not me , that’s Mom!  And look at that great hair!

My Mom liked to keep my hair short.

There were hair cut episodes when I wanted to wear a paper sack over my head….. and one time I actually did!

As an adult I tended to wear it long.  Liked how easy it was to just pull it back in a ponytail.

Next thing you know ……

I needed to color the gray.

I figured colored hair wouldn’t hold up too well in a long ponytail, so I cut it to a medium length.

But it only looked good for a few minutes a day …. SERIOUSLY ! !

Mom wanted to see how gray I was.   Kim didn’t want to be grayer than me.  (She has a loooooooooooooooong way to go for that!)

Then my long time hair dresser retired from hair care!

Most of all, I was becoming tired of dealing with the roots. The roots, that’s what put me over the edge.

I made a pact with myself when I started to color, to stop coloring at age 60.

I’m a bit over 60 now.

The process was painful.  Temporary color to cover roots didn’t work.  Instead of washing out completely, it lightened and was a “lovely” shad of orange!

Silver, orange, and black.

It was not great.

My new hair dresser tried some tricky stuff trying to soften the harsh line from black to gray.

On about July, I had had it.

I went to my hair dresser and said, “cut it to the roots.  Cut all the color off.”

She was a bit nervous.  She asked, “how about I shorten it up and if you don’t like it  in two weeks, come back and I will cut it to the gray then.”

I only thought about that for a second or two and said, “cut it to the gray now.”

She said I was very brave.   🙂

(Actually, the truth is I’m just old.)

We were both amazed and pleased with the results!

Unfortunately, I have no photos of the cut that first few weeks.  This photo is 2 months into it.   I liked it better  at first.  It was spiky and edgy.  Drastic and surprising.

Now it is showing the curl.  And I can’t get it to stand straight up!

It is pretty much back to doing just as it pleases.  🙂

( Christine thinks that ‘s a good thing.  She didn’t like the wild look I was sporting)  Maybe some ‘dippity-do” …..

So to all the questions I get at work ….. here are some answers!

No,  it is not a summer cut.

No, it wasn’t to be simpler to take care of.

No, I didn’t think I would be ravishing if I cut it.

Though it was a vanity that made me cut it short….. very short.

Don’t get me wrong; I do love wearing my hair long.

But, ya know? I’ve been coloring it for quite some time now.  I needed to stop.

Chris’s and Kim’s B-day Party

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

Whoooa!

This was from way back in July!

I just happened to check old posts and realized this post was trapped in the drafts!

So, in the realm of better late than never, I’m dragging this birthday post out, and posting about Kim’s and Chris’ birthday celebration.

Jack helped decorate the cake.

But …..Who is that serving the cake?

Happy Birthday Jim!

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

Bill and I attended a celebration for Jimmy.

Seems he and Anne share the same date.  We were able to spread out the festivities over 2 days. 🙂

Pizza was on the menu and Bev made a luscious chocolate cake.  For ice cream she found Ben and Jerry’s in small cups like “Hoodsies”!

The cake and ice cream,

presents,

and we learned a new game of cards. 🙂

All in all a pretty nice celebration!

Happy Birthday Jim.

Happy Birthday Anne!

Sunday, September 5th, 2010

We gathered yesterday to Celebrate Anne’s  birthday.

Kim put together a great dinner!

While dinner prep was going on Jack showed Gramps his new playground.

Jack’s new bed was set up before dinner, too!  Auntie Jan came to celebrate  with us and to try out the new bed.

She had us singing,  “There were 3 in the bed and the little one said, ‘roll over, roll over.’ and they all rolled over and one fell out” …..

Well, you know how the rest of that goes.

After dinner there was cake …. (yeah,  the famous chocolate cake with peppermint frosting) and chocolate ice cream.

Oh, and singing.:)

And the blowing out of candles.

And the gift thing.

It was a great party.

Don’t you think?

New Cooling Towers

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

The power plant in Somerset is constructing new cooling towers.

The purpose is to protect Mt. Hope Bay from being used to cool the power plant.

(Boy!  that’s a simplification!  But it is getting late and it is hot!  and I’m about ready for bed …LOL)

So tonight I went out to snap the sunset but missed it!  I snapped a few shots of the shore prior to any arrival of hurricane Earl. 😉

You know, since I was out there.  Not that we are actually going to be hit by Earl…..

Anyway.

I liked this picture.  Let’s see how it looks on a post.

Hmmmmm kind of dark.  LOL

It looked better larger on the computer.  You can just make out the cooling towers.  They are not finished.  I expect they will be taller.  I wonder if they will always have the ring of lights.

In another direction.

Here’s  our bridge. 🙂

Now I’m off to the showers and bed.

Nighty night.
