My kids have been hearing about my hair
from early on ….
and still it continues…..
Always with , “What am I gonna do with this crazy hair?”
Ooops that’s not me , that’s Mom! And look at that great hair!
My Mom liked to keep my hair short.
There were hair cut episodes when I wanted to wear a paper sack over my head….. and one time I actually did!
As an adult I tended to wear it long. Liked how easy it was to just pull it back in a ponytail.
Next thing you know ……
I needed to color the gray.
I figured colored hair wouldn’t hold up too well in a long ponytail, so I cut it to a medium length.
But it only looked good for a few minutes a day …. SERIOUSLY ! !
Mom wanted to see how gray I was. Kim didn’t want to be grayer than me. (She has a loooooooooooooooong way to go for that!)
Then my long time hair dresser retired from hair care!
Most of all, I was becoming tired of dealing with the roots. The roots, that’s what put me over the edge.
I made a pact with myself when I started to color, to stop coloring at age 60.
I’m a bit over 60 now.
The process was painful. Temporary color to cover roots didn’t work. Instead of washing out completely, it lightened and was a “lovely” shad of orange!
Silver, orange, and black.
It was not great.
My new hair dresser tried some tricky stuff trying to soften the harsh line from black to gray.
On about July, I had had it.
I went to my hair dresser and said, “cut it to the roots. Cut all the color off.”
She was a bit nervous. She asked, “how about I shorten it up and if you don’t like it in two weeks, come back and I will cut it to the gray then.”
I only thought about that for a second or two and said, “cut it to the gray now.”
She said I was very brave. 🙂
(Actually, the truth is I’m just old.)
We were both amazed and pleased with the results!
Unfortunately, I have no photos of the cut that first few weeks. This photo is 2 months into it. I liked it better at first. It was spiky and edgy. Drastic and surprising.
Now it is showing the curl. And I can’t get it to stand straight up!
It is pretty much back to doing just as it pleases. 🙂
( Christine thinks that ‘s a good thing. She didn’t like the wild look I was sporting) Maybe some ‘dippity-do” …..
So to all the questions I get at work ….. here are some answers!
No, it is not a summer cut.
No, it wasn’t to be simpler to take care of.
No, I didn’t think I would be ravishing if I cut it.
Though it was a vanity that made me cut it short….. very short.
Don’t get me wrong; I do love wearing my hair long.
But, ya know? I’ve been coloring it for quite some time now. I needed to stop.
